Description:
The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 is a short- to medium-range narrow-bodied aircraft that was put into service in the mid-1980's. The MD-82 is derived from the DC-9 family, but with a stretched fuselage, updated cockpit/avionics systems and new and improved Pratt & Whitney engines. Northwest MD-82's were powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217 series engines with a thrust rating of 19,000 lbs of thrust per engine. The MD-82's were phased out of the Northwest fleet in 1999.
